@flx23: Well, so I believe that we all don’t see any edge.
However. Another thing that rankles me is how semi-professional traders trades before computers and fast datafeeds arose. I mean, how did successful traders which didn’t work at the stock exchange or a bank directly decided when to trade and/or when to get out of a trade. So, when did…[Read more]

@Bartleby: Thanks for participating! Well, especially the mathematical edge got my attention. But I’ve also never found something promising.

interesting topic.
i would say, for me personally, candlesticks give me the positive effect of seeing ohlc of for example : weeks, days, quarters , easy and quick.
i think these levels are important. Price (or the traders) react at those levels quite often.
i ve puzzled some time with the statement that there´s a mathematical edge in ohlc of…[Read more]

Ok, when looking at tick data, we do not look at any timeframe, just incoming prices. OHLC, or candlesticks, can only be constructed when we start to structure tick data according to rules we define. Most obvious rule is simple timing, i.e. a uniform timeframe.
Most traders choose one or more timeframes for their trading that are somehow…[Read more]

Just read about the old stuff and I found a logical problem: Prize can deviate from its value. Wouldn’t it mean that the true value can be far above/below a candle? And what if we see another contradiction of both measures (OHLC4 and C) in such a region where prize already is way off its true value. These cases may lead to big DD.
In other words…[Read more]

If the condition is that both charts should represent the same TF then your explanation seems to be most obvious. But what if not? For instance, non-MT4 platforms usually support tick charts as well. Tickers from the stock exchange don’t show candles at all (although I don’t really know what all the numbers represent …):Is there any…[Read more]

Is there any advantage in using candlesticks then in comparison to tick charts alone?simplex replied to the topic Thread for (stupid) questions in the forum General Discussions 8 years, 11 months ago
First of all, I do not think that there’s such a thing like a ‘stupid’ question. If someone does not know a certain fact, or does not understand every detail of somebody else’s statement, or just is a newbie in a certain field, or … (fill in whatever makes sense!), he or she should feel free to post a question hoping the community can help out!…[Read more]

… and here is my question …
Before two or three years I’ve read the first time a rhetorical question:
Have you ever wonder, when you have a line graph, why in the hell would you invent the candlestick!!! ?
Clever Japanese people, they never did tell you why they invented it in the first place. Decades had past and then candlestick patterns…Anti replied to the topic Thread for (stupid) questions in the forum General Discussions 8 years, 11 months ago

From time to time a read something that gets my absolute attention. Then I think about it over and over again – for days, weeks, moths, and even years – without getting some answers to my questions on that topic. However, in these cases I’d like to discuss about the ideas/theories/topics and hear the opinions of other people.
Thus, this thread is…[Read more]

Ah, ok. Congratulation. But I don’t see how you trade it. Do you use it for trend trading or reversal trading?

Maybe the Natural MA was covered in Video #2 of the seminar series – the missing one.
There are functional MQL prototypes you can analyze in the links I provided above.
I do not understand the term ‘argmax i (NMM)’. Basically, the fast NMA is an NMA that dynamically truncates its own weighted lookback interval, thus acting faster than Standard…[Read more]

Yep, just skip the esoterics! Later on in Ch. 12 some analogies between physical and trading aspects, which I usually look at a bit skeptically, are becoming interesting from a very remote point of view.
What instantly intrigued me was Jim’s imperative attempt to remove as much arbitrariness as possible from any indicator calculation. Ever…[Read more]

Yep, my first impression was very similar, several weeks ago.
Let me cite from Chapter 8, ‘The Zen Moment’:
This is why, in my opinion, it is advantageous to develop at least partially your own approach to markets. The Advanced Ocean Software that is part of the Ocean Master program is designed to give you a set of tools with which to develop…

Wellcome back G, nice to see you again ….
Regarding the CS, how to use it properly ? My take is like this :
Lets say the 8 major currencies are : A (AUD), E (EUR), D (CAD), F (CHF), G (GBP), J (JPY), N (NZD), U (USD) and the pairs are the combination of all 8 currencies, and will build 28 pairs. I will look at higher TF, and pay attention t…[Read more]simplex started the topic Jim Sloman's Ocean Theory in the forum Trading Systems Discussion 8 years, 11 months ago
Hi Guys!
I wonder whether anybody got in touch with Jim Sloman’s Ocean Theory. You’ll find a pdf here.
In the pdf, there is no copyright notice, so I’m not sure about its status. Jim passed away a few years ago, and his original website etc. are gone. His latest trading software suite (5000 USD) is not available anymore.
There’s a youtube…[Read more]
