Didn’t find a thread outside the groups for a post like this one – so created this ‘Useful Links’ thread.
I just came across a really useful website for Excel users interested in extending Excel’s built-in stats methods: http://www.real-statistics.com/
Enjoy! simplex

I acknowledge that not everybody around likes FF, but that thread broketrader started about a year ago is really helpful when starting to make use of the OOP methods MQ4 build 600+ has on board:

No, not even installed it. Too busy at the moment. But I’m following their proceedings.
Their interface to MetaTrader seems most interesting, and their policy to integrate proven concepts very fast in their standard applications can take a lot of workload from coders, possibly refocussing from coding to trading.

March 29, 2015 at 5:28 pm #6054The project is being discussed over at SH forum for a while:

March 30, 2015 at 9:50 pm #6068Anybody else around who would like to have crosshair always on in MT4 chart window? If so, just go there, download and enjoy:

And reading the first post over there is required to satisfy the RTFM rule.

October 31, 2015 at 11:50 am #8663Just stumbled upon this one. It’s not specifically MQ4 or even FX, but might be useful for guys who want to improve their coding skills in general.
http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Rosetta_Code
From their homepage:
Rosetta Code is a programming chrestomathy site. The idea is to present solutions to the same task in as many different languages as possible, to demonstrate how languages are similar and different, and to aid a person with a grounding in one approach to a problem in learning another. Rosetta Code currently has 780 tasks, 174 draft tasks, and is aware of 594 languages, though we do not (and cannot) have solutions to every task in every language.
Current list of solutions: http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Category:Solutions_by_Programming_Task
Examples which might be useful:
polynomial regression: http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Polynomial_regression
convert seconds to compound duration: http://rosettacode.org/wiki/Convert_seconds_to_compound_duration
Have fun!

November 19, 2015 at 5:33 pm #9297PROGRAMMING MQL4
Takes you from complete beginner, you can do a module at a time and so pay in small chunks rather than the whole amount in one go, go at your own pace, well presented and recommended.
ps I have no connections whatsoever with the site

November 25, 2015 at 1:57 pm #9449I’m not quite sure whether this link has been posted anywhere else on this forum. Anyhow: we had some chat these days about starting to code MQL and how to support learning to do so.
When I started coding MQL some years ago, I already had some profound knowledge in different programming languages, mostly special derivates of Visual Basic. Starting from that point, I found Sergey Kovalyov’s free course extremely helpful.
Pro’s:
- It’s a beginners’ course in MQ4, and I mean coding newbies who don’t have any knowledge in other programming languages. If you’re not a total newbie, you might work through this faster, though.
- It’s free.
- It’s easy to read, plain English.
- There are a lot of coding examples, both indicators, scripts, and also a simple EA.
- All basics of starting to code are covered.
Con’s:
- It’s purely old school MQ4. That means the material has not been revised to meet the new opportunities MT4 build 600+ provides. Basic concepts are still valid, though, and the material provides basic coding methods you’ll need when coding.
- Even though a beginners’ course, it may still be a lot of work to walk through, depending on your personal foreknowledge.
- I don’t like every detail of Sergey’s coding style – but that’s a purely personal point of view. His concepts do work!
If you start this as a newbie, start at the beginning and move foreward in your own pace. Any questions relating to the material? Drop me a line, I’ll try to clarify.
Good luck & have fun!

November 30, 2015 at 2:31 pm #9648Interesting article about forward tests, backtests, and most of all difference between test and live results: The Cold Blood Index
Worth reading, IMO, though based on a different platform (Zorro Trader, not MT).
Usually it’s rather simple to migrate Zorro Scripts to MQL and vice versa, because both are C based.

November 30, 2015 at 2:54 pm #9650And another one from the very same blog: White’s Reality Check
Their conclusions as an appetizer for further reading:
- None of the 10 tested low-lag indicators, and none of the 3 tested markets shows significant positive expectancy with trend trading.
- There is evidence of a trend effect in currencies and commodities, but it is too weak or too infrequent for being effectively exploited with simple trade signals by a filtered price curve.
- We have now a useful code framework for comparing indicators and assets, and for further experiments with trade strategies.
While the 1st and 2nd conclusion should not be too surprising, the 3rd one is interesting, IMO.
Hmm – the longer I’m surfing that blog, the harder it gets to quit! Though all their articles are Zorro based, not MT.

November 30, 2015 at 3:12 pm #9651Only one more, this one is too good to be missed: Seventeen Trade Methods That I Don’t Really Understand
Excerpt:
When I started with technical trading, I felt like entering the medieval alchemist scene. A multitude of bizarre trade methods and hundreds of technical indicators and lucky candle patterns promised glimpses into the future, if only of financial assets. I wondered – if a single one of them would really work, why would you need all the rest? And how can you foretell tomorrow’s price by drawing circles, angles, bats or butterflies on a chart?

December 9, 2015 at 3:37 pm #10135Hi Guys!
Anyone around having experience with TSSB (Trading System Synthesis and Boosting) ? They state:
TSSB is FREE software platform for rapid R&D of statistically sound predictive model based trading systems via machine learning.
Their software is free, they’ll only charge you for support. And I like their attitude:

Yes, and went back to “R” & MATLAB. But I have nothing bad to say on TSSB.

Richard D. Wyckoff is the king in everything Volume, but mostly in Stocks, Futures, Commodities, etc.
I have some Academic papers on the subject (PDFs). I need to find them and I’ll send them to you.

When I look at my chart now I have CS TVI OBV NV and now VZO, a real powerful set of filters/indicators especially powerful on MTF so I must at some point release a new video just to remind everyone how superb it is, for now plenty of reading :-}
If I find any new material I will post it here for all.
