Your prototype is a good platform/prototype to extend based on it. It CERTAINLY isn’t “totally nuts”…. ;-}
Although I dont quite fully understand why bars appear/disappear, but I didn’t had time to review the source.
Good job !!

Up/Down Ticks vs. Total Ticks vs. Pips.
In general, if you want to analyze some market characteristics you need to analyze extreme conditions.
In FX, the extremes are cases of News/Announcements (high Volume/Ticks) or “disasters” (lack of buyer/sellers = lack of Volume/Ticks).
If you analyze News/Announcements you’ll see that candles/bars…[Read more]

Yes, I use up/down ticks, their accumullations and in relation to total ticks.
I never used candles in analysis. Candles are snapshots, crude timing intervals that are not related to the total tick flow.

To get Ticks/Minute in MT4 you can use:
iVolume() / Period()

By feeding ticks to “R” software.
I think that MT4 is limited to 4 Ticks/sec. – You can get it from LMAX, or some of cTrader brokers (cTrader is used only on true ECN/STP brokers).
If you’re getting constant ticks/sec – forget about getting meaningfull results. You either got a slow PC, Slow internet connection, or slow Broker (not true EC…[Read more]

Your broker probably block trading during announcements/News and/or open huge spread.
In any case – today’s ECB announcement probably “leaked” or known before to financial institutions.
See the breakout timing on the ForexGT_VolumeOsc (vertical line).

It’s an histogram of Ticks accumulation per bar (considering (+) or (-) price up or down).
BLUE if price moves above previous bar Close.
Red if price moves below previous bar Close.
White for Doji or engulfed by previous bar, i.e. insignificant price move.
Since Histogram does not retrace, you can enter trades when Volume >= its av…[Read more]

Off topic:
ECB announcement today.
ECB will probably ease policy (QE) which will send EUR down.
The question is not IF but HOW. Draghi is known for agressive moves, but he’s not alone…
On top of that we got the Unemployment Claims (USD) roughly at the same time.
So watch out and be prepared…

You can even increase the winning rate if you use SESSION AVERAGE instead of the naive one used in current indicator (i.e. London, London+NY, NY, Asian Sessions).
That was suggested long time ago, again with no productive feedback or contribution, as usual…

No, it’s not in the database.
“Meaningfull average” is being either adaptive average or relative to its TF.
Using fixed “10” as an average (just an example) is not meaningfull if you are using M5 or M15. What is meaningfull about 50 minutes or 150 minutes? nada…
If you think that 1 hour is meaningfull (just an example) then you should use…[Read more]
